Thomas Cruise Mapother IV was born on July 3, 1962 in Syracuse, New York
The Hollywood star, however, did not always want to be an actor. In his early teens, Tom wanted to become a priest. In his late teens that all changed when he got the acting bug. Now Tom is one of the most well-known movie actors of all time. Tom has only ever done movie roles. He has never appeared on TV. Tom’s first movie role was in the film “Endless Love” in 1981. For the next few years, Tom continued to gain roles in movies including “Taps,” “The Outsiders” and “Losin’ It.” Tom gained some attention when he gained the starring role in the 1983 film “Risky Business.” After “Risky Business,” Tom was in “All the Right Moves” and “Legend.” Tom gained his first true bit of stardom when he starred in the 1986 film “Top Gun,” where he played Maverick. Since “Top Gun,” Tom has continued to star in many big films, including “The Color of Money,” “Cocktail,” “Rain Man,” “Born on the Fourth of July” (for which gained his first Oscar nomination), “Days of Thunder” (where he met his second wife Nicole Kidman), “Far and Away,” “A Few Good Men,” “The Firm,” “Interview with the Vampire,” and “Mission: Impossible,” as Ethan Hunt.
