Lionsgate's big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novel The Hunger Games, hitting theaters next year, is the most anticipated film of 2012, a new poll conducted by MTV's NextMovie
Comsuggests, topping the final installment of the Twilight saga.
Hunger Games, out March 23 and starring Jennifer Lawrence,grabbed more than half of the vote from movie fans, with 51 percent going its way. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, hitting theaters Nov. 16, followed close behind with 45 percent of the vote.
Unfortunately for the rest of the pack, including The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Avengers, the comic book films garnered a combined 4 percent of the vote.
Even so, Twilight's on-screen couple Kristen Stewart andRobert Pattinson as Bella and Edward trailed Harry Potter'sEmma Watson and Rupert Grint as Hermione and Ron by less than half a percentage point (49.8 percent vs. 49.4 percent).
And when asked to choose which movie was the best of the year, moviegoers opted for the last film in the Potter series: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, which tallied 52 percent of the vote. Breaking Dawn received 48 percent.
Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross, revolves around a dysopian society, in which teenagers and children are chosen to fight to the death in what is called the Hunger Games.
